The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) has today announced the appointment of Saher S Sabri, an interventional radiologist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, USA, as president of the society for the 2026–2027 term.
“As I step into the role of president, I look forward to continuing strong advocacy for interventional radiologists and ensuring our members are recognised for the value they provide to the healthcare system and improving patient access to high-quality care,” said Sabri.
Other incoming officers of SIR’s 2026–27 board of directors include president-elect Kelvin Hong (Johns Hopkins Medicine, Baltimore, USA); newly appointed Secretary Nishita Kothary (Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, USA); and immediate past-president Robert A Lookstein (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, USA).
Additionally, appointed and elected SIR board of directors include Constantinos T Sofocleous (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA) as SIR director-at-large, J Dana Dunleavy (Atlas Interventional Radiology. Williamsville, USA) as SIR director-at-large, and C Matthew Hawkins (Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, USA) as SIR and SIR Foundation treasurer.
The SIR Foundation board appointed Shellie C Josephs (Stanford Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, Palo Alto, USA) as the chair of the SIR Foundation board of directors. She is a paediatric and adult interventional radiologist and vice chair of operations and quality in the Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, USA.
“As incoming chair, I am deeply committed to building on SIR Foundation’s legacy of discovery and ensuring that the next generation of interventional radiology leaders have the resources to transform patient care,” said Josephs.
