WCIO has announced via email communication that the board of directors of the organisation, a non-profit association that supports and promotes the field of interventional oncology (IO), has established the Society of Interventional Oncology (SIO), effective 17 January. The society’s annual IO conference will maintain its name of WCIO.

“As an established society, SIO serves as the only membership-based organisation dedicated wholly to the emerging field of IO, working to further promote the mission originally put forth by WCIO. SIO will offer four membership categories: Active, Affiliate, Resident/Fellow, and Student,” the WCIO communication adds.

Further, the email notes: “SIO benefits vary by membership level within the organisation. Primary benefits include discounts on the WCIO conference, access to online education through IO University, the opportunity to apply for research grants, and voting rights (contingent on level). Secondary benefits include first choice for Early Career Workshop at WCIO, free abstract submission for WCIO, access to Case of the Week sample cases, access to the IO Insights enewsletter, and inclusion in the member directory.”
